Our very long anticipated Easter residents have arrived! We are delighted to announce that the eight eggs that arrived at St Luke's Hospital a few days ago have all hatched successfully. We are now the very proud temporary home to eight hen chicks - all rare breeds.
Our new arrivals have been a talking point throughout the Hospital, with frequent visits from residents, relatives, friends and staff during the week. As they've got older and steadier, residents were able to see the chicks up close and some chicks visited residents in their rooms.
Lovely to see people's face light at the sight of new life during these beautiful spring days. The chick Easter project has enabled our residents and staff to connect with new life and remember back to days when they may have kept chickens at home or on a family farm.
The chicks are soon to go to their new homes to grow into hens over the course of the next few months, with the aim of one day laying eggs of their own. The joy and interest these little creatures have brought to the Hospital cannot be expressed. The photos perhaps do this much better than any words.
