The Care Home Open Week theme this year was "The Power of Music".
At St Luke's we are lucky enough to have regular visits from musicians from a Jazz trio, Ragtime pianist and Jonty, who plays a wide range of classical and popular music on his flute.
During Care Home Open Week residents enjoyed Jonty's performance as usual, and we had extra performances from schools in our community. Headington Rye pupils from year 7 entertained us with songs and instrumentals. Oxford International College students volunteered at our Saturday Coffee Morning serving specialist coffee and biscuits before performing on instruments ranging from trumpet, piano, flute, violin and Kalimba (a thumb piano). Our resident appreciated seeing what these local young people could do.
Music is a very powerful was that we can communicate and come together, joining people from different backgrounds and ages to enjoy one opportunity together. Seeing the joy and engagement of all that took part - performers and the audience, it shows just how powerful music can be.
A very big thank you to everyone involved in the performances that made our annual Open Care Home week even more special this year. Oxford International College
