St Luke's Hospital Staff recognised in Oxfordshire Care Awards

Every day we are fortunate to receive very positive feedback from our patients and their families. It might be a word from a patient about how they have enjoyed their meal, or a walk in the garden, appreciating all the flowers and plants cared for by our volunteering gardening team. A comment made by a family member who really enjoyed listening to the jazz trio on an afternoon's visit. Or a thank you from a rehabilitation patient as she leaves St Luke's to return home after a week's care.

This kind of feedback is regularly received by the care team, the housekeeping staff, the catering staff and our volunteers. Then there are occasions when St Luke's Hospital staff are recognised formally by an organisation that really knows a thing or two about care and how it should be provided.

The 2026 Oxfordshire Care Awards held recently was such an occasion. St Luke's Hospital physiotherapy and Occupational Health Team were finalists for the Team Award at the event.

Our Rehabilitation team deserve recognition, particularly for their skills in getting patients back on their feet and returning home. In feedback, the majority of their scores are consistently at Outstanding. It was a lovely evening and a good time was had by all." commented Richard Burden, Chief Executive of St Luke's Hospital.

Richard who has recently taken the decision to retire from his role at St Luke's was also recognised at the awards dinner with a special award given for his service to the industry over a very dedicated career.

It has been my privilege to work in Health and Social Care for over 40 years and to be able to help others along the way.

Well done to all our members of staff who have been recognised for the care and commitment they consistently put into their roles supporting patients. We are so proud of you all.
