Happy Earth Day!

Earth Day is a campaign to help people to come together to play a part in protecting our most valuable asset, this planet and all of its eco-systems. Environmental progress is built through everyday action—from communities protecting ecosystems to innovators advancing solutions. Clean air, safe water, and climate resilience aren’t optional—they’re essential. For Earth Day 2026 we know that every action counts and every voice matters.

Our hospital building has been enhanced over the past years to help support the biodiversity of Oxford in its own way. We have a number of initiatives that were installed in 2018 when we added a floor onto the main building. The design included a number of initiatives to improve local biodiversity in a sustainable and meaningful way.

One of the most striking features of these initiatives is our beautiful living wall at the front of the building. It has been created to provide a habitat for all kinds of insects and pollinators. The local bird population love it too. The second floor roof has also been designed to help insulate the building naturally and help manage run off rainwater.

Of course the two stunning gardens provide some of the best habitats for bees and other insects, as well as birds and small mammals like hedgehogs. The beauty of nature all around our site plays a key part in the local eco-system for so much wildlife. A very big thank you to our amazing team of volunteer gardeners who care for everything green at St Luke’s – we are truly grateful on this Earth Day for all your hard work and the benefits it brings to everyone here.
