The Trustees

Fiona Barnes

Fiona trained as a registered nurse in the Southwest in 1985. After qualifying Fiona moved to Oxford University Hospitals in 1988 and progressed from staff nurse through the nursing structure to Associate Chief Nurse, which included an educational role working with the Royal College of Nursing on their Clinical Leadership Programme. In 2009 Fiona moved to Northampton General Hospital as Deputy Director of Nursing. During her time at Northampton Fiona undertook a number of roles, including Interim Director of Nursing and a secondment to Southport Ormskirk NHS Trust for 18 months. In 2021 Fiona was appointed the Director of Nursing at Kettering General Hospital. After a full career in the ‘acute sector’ Fiona moved to Northampton Integrated Care Board in 2023 before retiring in 2025. Outside of work Fiona is a member of her local Parochial Church Council, enjoys gardening, ‘fair weather sailing’, and the arrival of grandchildren. As a newly appointed Trustee at St Lukes Fiona is keen to share her managerial & clinical experience with the Management Team to further improve the care for our clients.

Graham Candy

Graham is a Chartered Surveyor and former Chairman of Carter Jonas property consultants (now a consultant with the firm).  As part of his professional career, he is a RICS Registered Valuer.  Alongside his trustees work for St Luke's, Graham is a member of the Governing Body of Dragon School Trust Ltd and Trustee of Mikwano Children’s Trust, Uganda. ​​​

Dr Jane Hughes

Jane trained as a social worker and worked as a practitioner and manager in a variety of social care settings prior to employment as an applied social scientist at the University of Manchester. Here the focus of her research was community-based, long-term care for vulnerable adults, particularly older people, including care home residents and she is author of over 100 publications. Jane brings this experience and knowledge to her role as a trustee.

Dr Gareth Jones

Gareth is St Luke’s medical officer and also a GP and partner at the Manor Surgery in Headington. He is a GP trainer and has a certificate in post graduate medical education. He also has a degree in politics, philosophy and economics and before doing medicine worked in HM Treasury.

Louise McGrigor

MA in English at the University of St Andrews; Louise then worked for 10 years at Phillips Auctioneers and Christie’s. She subsequently gained Diplomas in Practical Horticulture and Plants & Plantsmanship. After three years as a volunteer fundraiser for Helen & Douglas House, specialising in Trusts and Foundations, Louise achieved a Masters in creative writing at Oxford Brookes and went on to work at HMP Bullingdon teaching literacy to offenders. PGCE and CELTA qualified, for the last ten years, she has been Lead Practitioner for English at City of Oxford College.

Juliet Norman

Juliet graduated from Exeter University and worked in property, primarily in the property development arm of Taylor Woodrow. She worked on large London residential developments from planning stage to final sales. While raising four children she trained at the College of Naturopathic Medicine for three years where she followed a lifelong passion and now works in her own practice of personalised nutrition and lifestyle practice. She also visits groups, private or business, to guide a programme of optimum health and nutrition. Juliet draws on her various working experiences to contribute to the work of St Luke’s Hospital, Oxford.

Simon Polito - Chairman

Simon's career as a solicitor began in 1972, with a specialism in UK and EU competition law. Simon headed up the competition law practice of Lovells solicitors working in the UK and Europe. During his career, Simon has held a number of notable positions including chair of the Competition and Markets Authority and later on the Financial Conduct Authority. Simon is Chairman of the charitable trust of Colfe's School in South East London and a Liveryman of the Leatherseller's Company.

Luke Ponsonby

Luke was a partner of stockbrokers Cazenove & Co where he managed investments on behalf of charities and individuals. He is now a Trustee for, amongst others, a prostate cancer charity and a cathedral trust. His family has had a long-standing involvement with St Luke’s which he is delighted to be able to continue in his role.

Nicholas Richie - Treasurer

Nick worked as a Fund Manager for Mercury Asset Management where he was responsible for the management of Institutional Fixed Income and multicurrency portfolios and was a member of the Asset Allocation Committee for 17 years. Portfolios that he directly managed included State of California, Harvard University and British Rail.
