A Day in The Life

Your morning starts with our wonderful nursing staff assisting you with getting out of bed if you are more comfortable eating in the comfort of your chair. If you wish we can also help to have your personal care needs attended to before breakfast, some people prefer to do this after eating.

Once all residents are attended to breakfast is served typically between 8-8:30 am. During breakfast one of our registered nurses attends to residents with their prescribed medications and general rounds to ensure there are no unidentified concerns.

We have lots of options available for breakfast with cooked options, cereals, fruit, toast, juices and of course tea and coffee.

After breakfast, if you have not had your personal care needs attended one of our nursing staff will come to assist you based on your level of support needed.

We have a schedule of events every month with a variety of things on offer. Of course, if you chose to, there is the option to relax in your room. We do have several communal areas that you can also use; there is a day room on each floor, we have a library and extensive gardens all at your disposal.

Several days a week we offer an exercise class, it is not only a great opportunity to get in some exercise but it is a fun social event with music and laughter.

We have hairdressing available on a Tuesday with Lynn who offers a range of services for both male and female residents.

On the first Monday of the month, we hold our Roman Catholic service in the chapel with tea and coffee afterward. Families are also welcome to attend.

Throughout the month with may have a range of other activities on offer, we recently had a Jeeves and Wooster style performance by OODLES. It kept us all guessing and I'm not sure that anyone had figured out the mystery of the murder until it was revealed in the performance.

Lunch is served between 12-1 pm again we have a varied menu with lots of variety on offer, some of our residents choose to eat in their rooms, whilst others eat in our dining room. We also have the coffee shop available for residents and you can have your lunch in there, this can be great if your family want to sit and eat with you.

We occasionally have lunch with Matron events where we all get together in the dining room and get to sample new foods; we are soon to have A Taste of Spain event where we will get to sample some tasty tapas and Spanish delicacies.

Following lunch, most residents like to have a short rest before the afternoon activities commence. We have a varied schedule of music, craft, reminiscence and performance activities. We also carry out a gardening club in the spring/summer months taking full advantage of our gardens and patio areas.

Dinner is served between 5pm-6pm and again residents have the choice of eating in their room or in one of our dining rooms. We sometimes have evening events. We try to work with our residents to form an evening schedule that suits their needs in terms of bedtime. Nursing staff are on hand to assist with any personal care needs before assisting you to bed.

Regardless of what is going on within St Luke's the day is your own, we will always do our best to accommodate you.
